Short Film: Chromophobia (2021) Review

Chromophobia (also known as chromatophobia or chrematophobia) is a persistent, irrational fear of, or aversion to, colors and is usually a conditioned response. While actual clinical phobias to color are rare, colors can elicit hormonal responses and psychological reactions.

Synopsis

Two girls smear white goop on their faces and load up what look like paintball guns. They cross off colors from a paint swatch sample. We’re shown that it’s a post-apocalyptic world, and a building has a warning painted on it: “Danger Tinted.” As we look closer, the paint on the walls seems to move. Are the colors literally alive?

They march off into the ruins of the city, looking around for any danger. They enter a building, “It’s the only way through.” A strange zombie with a bubbling head staggers in, but he doesn’t see them right away. They shoot him repeatedly with white paintballs until he explodes.

Will the duo survive the strange colorful zombies?

Commentary

This looks really good, and it has a pretty unique twist on the zombie concept. Who knew mixing paint colors would be the end of life as we know it?

It’s far from a full story, but you can pretty much tell what life has been like to lead them to this point. This is a really creative idea, and it’s got a very colorful idea behind it 🙂
