Synopsis

A hiker limps through the woods. He’s not had a good day; he’s got a purple spot on his leg, either a bad sprain or some kind of serious bite. He stops to look around, and there’s no one there. He yells. No answer.

He sees a figure standing there. “I’m lost and I’m hurt. I need help,” he shouts. The figure ignores him and moves off as he approaches. Every time the hiker takes a few steps forward, it retreats the same distance. Suddenly, the things is gone.

Or is it?

Commentary

The cinematography here is great; you really feel like this took place in the deep, isolated woods. The movement and skittering sounds the creature make are really good, as is the “vanishing” effect when it hides.

It’s only May, but this short is going on my short list for “Best short of the year.” Will it hold up in seven months? I think it will. Check back in January. But yes, I liked this one a lot.
