Swamp Thing Series (1990) Review

Swamp Thing 1990 series (23 minutes each)

Synopses of the First Four Episodes

Ep. 1 We meet young Jim, and he befriends S. T. Arcane hunts down a dwarf and makes him watch a dancing hooker before shooting him in the heed.

E2. Arcane does plastic surgery on a woman to make her the duplicate of Alec Holland’s dead wife. This triggers S. T. to have flashbacks of his human life. She tries to trick him into giving up his secret recipe, but he figures it out.

Ep. 3 Arcane has Jim kidnapped so S.T. won’t interfere with Arcade’s latest experiment, and bunch of creatures roaming the woods. The experimental creature kills Dr. Arcane, but S.T. has to revive him so Arcane can reveal where he trapped Jim.

Ep. 4: Jim and Oboe want to see the Swamp Maiden, a local legend. If you kiss her, she turns you into a monster. They run into a journalist who wants to trap ST. Oboe kisses the maiden and becomes a giant frog-man. ST rescues Jim and the reporter from the Oboe-creature and then gets the Maiden to break the spell.

Commentary

… And that will give you an idea of what we’re dealing with. The episodes are simply too short to tell much in the way of a story, and everything has to wrap up quickly and return to the status quo at the end of every episode.

It was reasonably popular, as it was renewed for three full-length seasons. If you’re a big fan of Swamp Thing, it’s not like there are a lot of options, but this is by far not the best of the Swamp Thing programs.
